Black Lives Matter

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore— And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over— like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

—Langston Hughes, 1951

The one great promise that the theater makes is as a space to listen. And in that space, we’re listening for the answer to a question: is how we live today the way we wish to live tomorrow, and if not, how can we move from where we are to where we wish to be?

Milwaukee Chamber Theatre condemns the systemic racism in our country that leads to the murders of Americans like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many more.

Artists, audiences, allies, and neighbors: we see you, we hear you, and we share your outrage at these profound injustices. We proudly stand—today and in the time to come—with all who demand that our community exist as its best self to everyone who calls it home.
